Condé Nast Traveler’s Insider Mexico Tips

Condé Nast Traveler author, Wendy Perrin, recently sat down to interview one of Mexico’s Top Travel Specialist to reveal trends, tips, and suggestions you need to know when planning your Mexico vacation. It just so happens that the Condé  Nast Traveler Travel Specialist was our very own, Zachary Rabinor!

In addition to speaking about what’s new, what’s trending, and what you shouldn’t do in Mexico, Zach also commented on the important topic of safety in Mexico:

“People are finally returning after several years of a hiatus to Mexico’s more cultural, wildlife and off-the-beaten-path destinations. So, I think for the past few years, while there was a lot of negative PR, negative press about Mexico, about violence in Mexico, that’s subsiding in both frequency and intensity, and so people are again, looking toward the cultural destinations in Mexico.”

All-Inclusive AM Resorts in Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone

The new AMResorts, Secrets Vallarta Bay and Now Amber Vallarta, have been widely embraced and welcomed as all-inclusive resorts to Puerto Vallarta’s Hotel Zone. Since opening in April of 2012, the hotels have been receiving great feedback and after closer Journey Mexico  inspection and experiencing the services first-hand, we agree.

While both hotels are on the same property, just a few minutes from Puerto Vallarta’s Downtown, they feel completely separated. Secrets Vallarta Bay is adults-only, romantic, and elegant while Now Amber is family-friendly, fun, and exciting.  Both all-inclusive  hotels operate under the signature Unlimited-Luxury® plan which provides top-notch services, indulgences and leaves you with a “don’t worry about a thing– you are on vacation” attitude.

The are a limited number of quality options that are minutes away from Puerto Vallarta’s Centro, so these two additions make great options for families or couples visiting the area. At Journey Mexico, we know all the best places to stay in Puerto Vallarta and throughout the entire country. Give us a call today to plan the trip of a lifetime!

Travel Trade Show 2013: Tianguis Turistico Puebla

Puebla Tianguis

Puebla is gearing up for the 38th Edition of the Tianguis Turistico — Mexico’s most important travel trade show. The fair will be held from March 17th to March 20th at the Exhibition Center in the state’s capital,  providing a unique business arena where domestic and international purchasers are able to meet with over 500 Mexican tourism service providers.

For 36 years, Tianguis Turistico had been held in Acapulco before deciding to become a traveling tourism fair, making its first stop in 2012 at the beach destination of Puerto Vallarta.  Puebla will be the first colonial destination of the Tianguis Turistico Mexico. While last year had a record-breaking attendance of 1,400 buyers and 7,500 attendees, this year Mexico is expecting to exceed that number with 1,500 buyers from 33 countries. Puebla was chosen as this year’s host because of it abundance of cultural and historical significance. In fact, the city of Puebla was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. Puebla commented that it will be a proud host and as part of preparations for Tianguis’ activities, the city has invested more than 300 million pesos in infrastructure.

If you are unfamiliar with Puebla, it has exquisite architecture which can be seen in its many churches and convents and it is also where some of the popular dishes of Mexican cuisine come from –such as chiles en nogada (a colorful blend of poblano peppers topped with a creamy walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds) and mole poblano. Puebla also is proudly home to seven Pueblos Magicos — recognized ‘Magical Towns’ that imbue certain characteristics and experiences through architecture, traditions, customs, music, gastronomy, festivities and handcrafts.

Magic Towns Puebla If you’re planning to attend this travel fair or visit Puebla for any reason, give Journey Mexico a call.  Matteo, Rene, and Jessica, will be representing Journey Mexico at this year’s Tianguis. If you would like to make an appointment, please email them.

The award-winning hotel chain, Las Brisas Hotel Collection, has announced the launching of their new, luxury hotel in the Cancun/Riviera Maya– Nizuc Resort & Spa. Opening its doors in March 2013, Nizuc Resort & Spa combines discreet exclusivity with the allure of the Mayan culture.

The resort is located at the gateway of the Riviera Maya, at the southern point of Cancun’s hotel zone on Blvd. Kukulkan, known as Punta Nizuc. Beyond that, it borders a 22 acre ecological reserve that is open for guests to explore via accompanied walks into Mother Nature’s serenity and silence.

While Nizuc’s prime location makes it a convenient starting point for accessing all of the Yucatan’s natural wonders, archaeological sites and attractions; the true wonder can be found at the resort itselfm with 274 exceptional suites, extraordinary amenities and outstanding culinary selections.

Highlights of Nizuc Resort & Spa include personalized attention and butler service, superb healing spa treatments, five swimming pools (two adult-only), three distinct accommodation areas each offering its own unique atmosphere, and  6 world-class restaurants of gastronomic delicacies head by Executive Chef, Vincet Wallez. 2013 Mexico Travel Bucket List

As we enter the new year of 2013 and a new era of the 14th baktun, it is time to start not only planning new adventures and travels — but also completing them! If you’re looking for the most exhilarating trips to add to your 2013 Travel Bucket List, Mexico has some of the best!

With a majority of Mexico’s destinations deemed safe for traveling and increasingly more tourists visiting, Mexico is back on the map for many international travelers. The world is starting to understand the message that not only does Mexico have incredible beaches and luxurious resorts, it also has a wealth of culture and vast offerings of nature and wildlife. Here are Mexico’s most invigorating experiences and destinations to add to your 2013 Travel Bucket List:

1) El Rosario Monarch Reserve
One of the most amazing natural phenomena in the world is the annual migration of the North American Monarch Butterfly. Arriving in late October, they travel up to three thousand miles to their warm wintering grounds in Michoacán, Mexico. The butterflies transform Michoacán’s El Rosario Reserve to vibrant shades of orange as they completely envelop the trees and cover the grounds–a truly spectacular sight to see.

2) Chiapas
Inhabited with lush jungles, exotic native communities, colonial cities  and Mayan archeology, Chiapas is an incredibly diverse state in Mexico. The Sumidero Canyon, with its towering walls and exotic wildlife, is a popular attraction; but not to be missed are the radiating waterfalls of Misol-Ha and Agua Azul within the Lacondon Jungle. Other highlights include San Cristobal de las Casas, appointed one of Mexico’s Pueblos Magicos (Magical Towns) which is an extreme contrast from San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, where indigenous customs and traditions are still very much present.AguaAzul

3) Xilitla & The Famous Gardens of Sir Edward James
Hidden in  state of San Luis Potosi, the Magical Town of Xilitla is known for its abundant vegetation and surrealism. Among Xilitla’s waterfalls, mountains and tropical rain forest is where an eccentric Englishman, Sir Edward James, decided to create his own fantasy world of surrealist inspiration. Towering concrete sculptures and fantastical figures create a dreamlike castle and gardens that await to be discovered.

4) Isla Holbox &  Swimming With Whale Sharks
Isla Holbox is beautiful island off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula (close to Cancun) known for its white sand, crystal waters, and incredible sunsets. While beautiful to visit any time of the year, it is May through September when the world’s largest fish, the Whale Shark, come to migrate. Growing over 40ft in length, they pose no threat to humans, which makes swimming with these giant creatures in the natural habitat a must-do for every adventurer.

5) Copper Canyon
The largest canyon in North America, Copper Canyon is nearly four times the volume of the Grand Canyon found in the USA.  There are many adventure activities such as hiking, mountain biking  and wildlife viewing but the highlight of this region is the famous Chihuahua al Pacifico Train. Crossing numerous bridges and tunnels, the changing landscapes offer unbelievable photo opportunities.  Along the ride you can stop off to experience historic haciendas, visit the frontier mining outpost of Batopilas and learn about the indigenous Tarahumara traditional culture.Copper-Canyon-Bucket-List

Luxury in the Riviera Nayarit

Luxury in Mexico is easy to find, especially when the spotlight is shining on the  200-mile stretch of coastline along Mexico’s Pacific Coast called the Riviera Nayarit and the local CVB’s effort to market the destination as an upscale region. Riviera Nayarit – Mexico’s new hot spot, starts north of Puerto Vallarta’s border in Nuevo Vallarta and stretches almost all the way to Mazatlan. The coast is lined with beautiful beaches, hip towns, seaside villages and cultural gems.  The local map highlights 24 towns along this stretch and has numerous high-end branded properties and boutique hotels along the way.

Known as ‘Mexico’s Pacific Treasure” the Riviera Nayarit has been drawing big investments from upscale hotel chains for some time now. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita  and St. Regis Punta Mita were the first of luxury branded hotels to enter Nayarit. Apple Leisure Group, based in Pennsylvania, USA, and owners of AMResorts, are nearing completion on two large scale, all inclusive projects, Secrets Litibu and Dreams Litibu. Other properties include Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit,  Occidental Grand Nuevo Vallarta, Imanta Resort,  Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta and Iberostar Litibu.

Luxury Four Seasons Mexico

Four Seasons Punta Mita offers seclusion for complete relaxation, pampering services, and puts comfort at a priority.

Imanta Punta Mita

Imanta Resort has 250 acres of property together with a half-mile private beach and a staff dedicated to solely making a vacation experience of a lifetime

According to Marc Murphy, Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau (as quoted in Travel Weekly), “More than 70% of our 15,000 hotel rooms are in AAA Three Diamond and above properties, and more are coming online this year and next.”  The AAA Diamond awards are  bestowed upon only a select group of hotels that offer the finest and most luxurious lodging, surroundings and hospitality. Some hotels in Riviera Nayarit have also been named Five Star Diamond establishments by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, a New York based organization that continuously monitors the quality standards of the best tourist destinations around the world.

In the most recent recognition, Riviera Nayarit was presented with the title  ‘Best Luxury Beach Destination in Mexico’ by Travelocity’s gnome. In an online competition called The Battle of The Destinations III, Riviera Nayarit won popular vote by a landslide.

Celebrities have been sneaking away to the area for years and many own gorgeous coast-line villas. In addition to the lavish properties, the area boasts  of adventure and nature opportunities as well as the rich culture and the vivid art of the Huichol people, indigenous to the highlands that tower over the coast. Luxury in Mexico without a doubt can be found in Riviera Nayarit.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is a treat of lavish beauty and comfort that is also an all-inclusive with exceptional gourmet dining, world-class hospitality, and luxurious hotel accommodations.

A New Year, A New Look for Journey Mexico

We are proud to announce the launch of a new company logo:

In 2012, Journey Mexico hit some exciting milestones –the year started with a successful re-opening of our Cancun Office, Journey Yucatan,  and brought recognition to  Journey Mexico from outlets like Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel Weekly, National Geographic and the International Luxury Travel Market. With the incredible support of our clients, suppliers, and partners, Journey Mexico continues to experience dynamic growth.

As the new year approaches, it will mark ten years of operation for Journey Mexico! With the success we’ve achieved in the first ten years, we are looking ahead and planning for the next. We stepped back and took  time to evaluate our company’s brand and logo to ensure it was in sync with who we are and what Journey Mexico represents. After careful consideration, we chose a new logo that still embodies Mexico, but with a sleeker look that captures our company’s character. The  hieroglyphic eagle and new font and colors represent Journey Mexico’s strive to fulfill the promise of upholding the best quality in our job, product, service and results.

We have already updated most of our collateral material, uniforms, business cards, etc. with the new logo. We realize that changing a logo is a process that can take some time, but we are confident that the new look will help us continue in the forward direction. We will be launching a new website in the next few months which will solidify our brand.

If you have used the Journey Mexico logo in any of your marketing materials, please assist us in updating them.  We appreciate your kind support.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
