Künük is a tranquil hideaway in the center of Mérida, the Yucatán´s cultural capital where colorful streets, grand monuments and historic buildings await exploration.
Once the private home of a British gentleman, the property still feels like a lived-in residence with original art, stained-glass details, and European touches balanced by contemporary Mexican design. Thirteen serene king and queen size guest rooms feature “chukum” walls, earthy tones, and wood and stone finishes, with subtle references to the region’s henequen heritage.
Restaurante 609 and bar sit beneath arched windows and period-inspired artwork, serving dishes made with herbs and vegetables from the garden, daily baked bread, and house-made jams and ice creams.
Relax with tropical cocktails on the terrace or unwind by the leafy garden pool. Warm, highly personalized service – every guest is welcomed by name – creates an intimate, boutique atmosphere, made even richer by a managing director who loves sharing the stories behind each piece of art.

Kunuk Hotel commits to sustainability through a range of initiatives. They focus on recycling and reuse, implementing activities to recycle waste and use water-absorbing tiles. Waste is separated into organic and inorganic, with glass jars and bottles reused, and paper sheets repurposed in offices. PET and coffee capsules are sent to collection centers. Single-use amenities are crafted from recycled containers, and refillable dispensers are utilized. The hotel offers bottles made from 100% recycled PET and uses water jugs. Takeaway products are made from corn starch.
Energy consumption is minimized with energy-saving bulbs, natural light, and efficient appliances that receive annual maintenance. Bathrooms feature skylights to maximize natural light. Biodegradable cleaning and maintenance products ensure safety, while natural materials like marble, wood, and Chukum are used for floors, furniture, and finishes.
Kunuk purchases products from local companies and maintains its own herb garden. Collaboration with artisans from Yucatán and Oaxaca enhances the hotel’s decor with handmade textiles, lamps, henequen sponges, and palm slippers. Guest rooms display macramé, palm works, and artworks by Mexican artists. Additionally, the hotel collaborates with local masseuses, shamans, and ceremonial guides.
