In Mexico, we take our holidays and festivals very seriously! From local celebrations (such as the Radish Festival every December 23 in Oaxaca) to national holidays (such as Mexican Independence Day “El Grito” on September 15), the spirit of festivity is alive and well in the hearts of Mexicans. The year begins with New Year’s Eve celebrations across the country. Family dinners, late night music and dancing, fireworks, and shouts of “Feliz Año” ring throughout the Republic. From this day forward, Mexicans find a reason to celebrate almost every month. King’s Day in early January, Valentines Day in February, the Spring Equinox in March, and Semana Santa in April make the first half of the year a series of joyful occasions. Cinco de Mayo and the Guelaguetza Festival in Oaxaca bring lively spirit to summer. The commemorative Day of the Revolution (Nov. 20) and somber Day of the Dead (Nov. 31) celebrations are full of processions and parades that remember our compatriots and ancestors. We wrap up the year with Christmas posadas or parties and a family dinner on the 24th that lasts well past midnight. Join us for one of these special days and experience the spirit of Mexican festivals.
