This trip is an off-the-beaten-path adventure that visits both the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez coastlines of Baja California, Mexico. It is ideal for active travelers wanting to combine remote hiking and paddling in pristine wilderness settings and amazing wildlife viewing opportunities with visits to local villages.

Highlights

Kayaking the Sea of Cortez:

  • Full day Sea-Kayaking expedition in the Sea of Cortez in the turquoise waters of the protected bays and beaches of the beautiful Island of Espiritu Santo.  We will also enjoy natural history guided walks and a visit to the resident sea lion colony at Los Islotes where we can opt to swim and snorkel with these playful and fun-loving marine mammals.

  • Snorkel and relax on the exquisite white sand beaches outside of La Paz.

Hiking in the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve:

  • Day hike the sweeping seascapes of the rugged Pacific Coast of Southern Baja California 

  • Hike into the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere reserve and experience the magic of cascading waterfalls in the spectacular cactus forests of this seldom visited desert wilderness

Day 1

Arrival Day San Jose del Cabo Today is arrival day and there are no activities planned. The group transfers to a charming colonial fishing village turned artist colony. Your arrival in Todos Santos will be at 4:30 PM and the drive takes approximately 1:30 hrs. (Private transfers available upon request and at additional cost). Transfer from airport and settle into your lovely boutique hotel inTodos Santos right in the heart of town, the Todos Santos Inn. Stroll the cobbled streets and breathe in the dessert air and the relaxed atmosphere of the real Baja California. Meet group leaders and other members of group in the lobby of your hotel at 6:30 P.M. for dinner and orientation for your adventure to come. Day 2

Todos Santos Historic Town Walking Tour/Sea Cliffs Hike Meet at 9:00 am in hotel courtyard for an orientation from our guide and learn about the fascinating oasis of Todos Santos and its long history as an important community in Southern Baja. After a delicious lunch, we will explore the secluded coast line and pristine beaches surrounding the oasis town of Todos Santos. Our sea cliff hike takes us along miles of spectacular coastline with sweeping views of Baja’s stark and rugged coastline. (Overnight: Todos Santos Inn or Los Colibris) (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included)

Day 3

Todos Santos Triple Waterfall ½ day Hike/Afternoon Surfing Lesson Today, we set out to explore the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere reserve and we transfer to the trail head where we begin walking up the arroyo (river bed). The landscape changes as the cactus forest thickens and then unexpectedly we come to not one, not two, but three different waterfalls in the middle of the desert. Enjoy the opportunity to swim and take pictures or just relax with a wonderful picnic lunch. We then travel from the interior to the beautiful crescent shaped beach of Los Cerritos for a picnic lunch and an opportunity to try our hand at surfing in the gentle Pacific rollers. Late afternoon return to our beautiful accommodation and night out on the town at one of the many fantastic eateries. Day 4

Todos Santos Free Day (Optional Activities: Horse-back riding, ceramics tour) We have today free to explore the charming town, shop in the many interesting tiendas, crafts stores and jewelry shops, or take advantage of options for horse back riding, a ceramics tour, or just relaxing. Tonight, you are free to make your own dinner plans. Take our recommendations for one of the fine restaurants in the city center, where you will be treated to some of the best Mexican cuisine on the peninsula. (Overnight: Todos Santos Inn or Los Colibris) (Breakfast Included)

Day 5

Todos Santos – La Paz – Balandra Snorkeling, Swimming, Hiking Transfer from your hotel in Todos Santos to La Paz and one of its many beautiful white sand beaches to relax, snorkel, hike, and swim in the incredible translucent waters that ring the many secluded bays and beaches. Sea food delicacies and an ice cold drinks on the edge of the water is a fine introduction to the Sea of Cortes. Early afternoon check in to our charming lodging and happy hour overlooking the beautiful Bay of La Paz. Dinner out on the town and briefing on our kayaking adventure to come. (Overnight: B&B el Angel Azul or equivalent) (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included)

Day 6

La Paz – Sea Kayaking/Snorkeling Espiritu Santo Island and the Sea of Cortes Transfer to Espiritu Santo Island in a high-speed motorboat. Your guide will discuss points on safety and provide beginners with the basics of sea-kayaking and correct use of gear and kayaks. We then embark paddling the turquoise waters of Espiritu Santo Island beneath spectacular volcanic cliffs and arrive at one of many beautiful beaches to for a picnic lunch. After lunch and a natural history walk, we board our speedy launch and ride to a beautiful off-shore island, which is home to a large sea lion colony. Prepare to experience the amazing thrill of swimming with sea lion pups and snorkel amongst thousands of tropical fish. We then return to our hotel in La Paz. Night out on the town for dinner and farewell fiesta! (Overnight: B&B el Angel Azul or equivalent) (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included)

Day 7

Departure day La Paz - Home. Group taxis to airport or extend your stay. (Breakfast Included)

I am very interested in the baja multisport kayaking and hiking trip.  Not sure if any of my friends are interested in something like this.  Can you book single or should I wait to see if you get a group going and then book if I am going as a single person?
