One&Only Palmilla is proud to be a plastic-free resort! Plastic water bottles have been replaced with Water Matters cardboard containers, a Mexican water company that plants two trees for every one cut down for materials and contributes a portion of all profits to Mexican communities that don´t have access to drinking water. Glass bottles are also used in restaurants and guest rooms, refilled with water that´s filtered at an on-site treatment facility. This prevents over 600,000 plastic bottles from going into a landfill! Eco-friendly or biodegradable alternatives have replaced plastic straws, take away food containers, and bags used by the gardening team.
The hotel saves 14% of its annual energy usage through automated control and monitoring of power (outdoor lighting, room a/c, electricity), and has reduced water consumption by an average of 9% in the last year through controlled systems for garden irrigation, pool filtration, and pressurized water cleaning systems. 80% of cleaning products and 100% of garden treatments are eco-friendly.
O&O has partnered with La Dama Tequila, a bio-dynamic producer that grows agave sustainably, reclaims broken glass to make its bottles, and uses leftover agave fibers to create paper products. The hotel works with local organic farms for its fresh seasonal produce, while fish and seafood are sustainably sourced. A refreshment center has replaced in-room mini bar packaging, instead utilizing recyclable and reusable glass mason jars.
The resort collaborates with the Los Cabos ‘Sea Turtle Protection Association’, organizes toy donations for children, ongoing food donations to several charities, and contributes supplies to local dog shelters. Colleagues are offered opportunities to continue their education, and a bottle cap recycle area has been set up with the proceeds supporting a child cancer foundation.
