ABOUT GERARDO

 Gerardo Ham

Gerardo Ham, Journey Mexico's Operations Manager in the Yucatan Peninsula, is a native of Mexico city and has been a Yucatan resident for over 21 years.  He is one of the regions premier naturalist, birding, and archeology guides.  At a young age Gerardo’s (or Jerry as he is fondly referred too throughout the Yucatán Peninsula) spirit of Adventure led him to join the Alpine emergency Rescue team, which afforded him the opportunity to travel widely throughout the Mexican Republic.  Gerardo was a key player in the 2nd brigade including subterranean cenote rescues and high altitude assistance on the towering volcanoes of Central Mexico.

Gerardo has a degree in Anthropology that further deepened his already well developed interests in the natural world to the rich culture and history of his native land.  After completing his studies, Gerardo set off to explore distant lands and has traveled, lived and worked in Cananda, the United States, and Peru along with neighboring Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.

Gerardo has lived both in the capital Yucatca city of Merida and the major tourism center of Cancún, where he currently resides with his wife and children.  He has been instrumental in the development of sea turtle conservation programs, co-founder of  the Chi’ich Birding Club and continuously broadens his knowledge with active participation in University courses and professional training.  In 1998, Gerardo founded the “Solstice Bulletin”, a local newsletter to promote the incredible history, culture, flora and fauna of Mexico.  Jerry takes great pride in his role of helping craft Journey Mexico's unique itineraries in the Yucatan and he looks forward to welcoming you to his home region!  E-mail Gerardo with questions about Mayan mythology at: gerardo@journeymexico.com.
